Guitarist Todd Clouser and pianist Alex Mercado, two of the Mexico City creative music scene’s most noted artists, join here in offering “Cinema”, a collection of “music for unrealized film” recorded in duo in a live studio session. Mercado, recognized as a virtuosic jazz pianist, plays subtly here, providing context for Clouser’s often lullaby-like melodies. “Wake The Boy” and “An Ever While” are equal parts melancholy and Americana, while other tracks drift into ambience and circular song, the two shelving their instrumental prowess for a cinematic approach.
